Jennifer Lopez has opened up about her divorce from Ben Affleck, describing the emotional journey as a turning point in her life.
The actress-singer, 56, announced her split from the Oscar-winning actor in April 2024, and their divorce was finalised in January 2025 after nearly two years of marriage.
Speaking with CBS News Sunday Morning, Jennifer Lopez admitted the separation was painful but ultimately transformative:
“It changed me. It helped me grow in a way that I needed to grow. Become more self-aware. I’m a different person now than I was last year. The hard times are the lessons, and once you understand that, everything becomes a little lighter and you can really, really fly.”
She shared that the summer following the breakup was filled with newfound joy, noting she has learned to embrace life’s little moments more fully.
Still, Jennifer Lopez acknowledged the challenge of juggling her personal struggles with the demands of filming her upcoming movie Kiss of the Spider Woman:
“It was tough. It was the best and worst of times. Every moment on set I was so happy, but back home it was not great. Reconciling the two was really hard.”
Despite the split, Jennifer Lopez credited Affleck for supporting the project through his Artists Equity production company:
“The movie wouldn’t have been made if it wasn’t for him and Artists Equity. I told him this was the role I was born to play, and he helped make it happen.”
Directed by Bill Condon and starring Diego Luna, the musical drama—adapted from the Broadway hit—will premiere in U.S. cinemas on October 10, 2025.
