Nollywood actress Jumoke Odetola has addressed the wave of criticism trailing chef Hilda Baci’s latest Guinness World Record attempt for the largest pot of Jollof rice.
The record-breaking event, held at Eko Hotel, Lagos, attracted widespread support from celebrities such as Funke Akindele, Enioluwa, Tomike, Pastor Idowu and Ogun State First Lady, Bamidele Abiodun. While many congratulated Baci, some detractors dismissed the feat, claiming the food “wasn’t sweet.”
Reacting on Instagram, Jumoke expressed disappointment over how negativity overshadowed such a historic achievement.
“It is heartbreaking when negativity overshadows greatness. Since yesterday, my timeline hasn’t rested with posts and banters, people saying things like ‘e no sweet,’ or ‘cooking na achievement?’ And I keep asking — what has changed in our mindset as humans?” she wrote.
The actress emphasized that it takes courage, preparation, and resilience to attempt something extraordinary, urging critics to reflect on why they feel triggered by a woman striving to leave a mark in her field.
She continued:
“Go somewhere private, place your right hand on your chest and ask yourself: WHY am I triggered by the success of a woman trying to make a mark in her field? Sit with that question. Your answer might just be the doorway to your healing.”
Jumoke concluded with a prayer that God grants critics peace, happiness, and healing from bitterness and negativity.
