Kenya Airways Pays NCAA Fine Over Passenger Rights Violations

Kenya Airways Pays NCAA Fine Over Passenger Rights Violations

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has confirmed that Kenya Airways has paid the sanction imposed on it for consumer protection-related infractions involving three passengers, including Gloria Omisore.

This was disclosed in a statement on Thursday by the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, who explained that although the airline has complied with the financial penalty, the payment does not bring an end to the matter.

The NCAA had earlier, in a letter dated May 7, 2025, sanctioned Kenya Airways for failing to uphold passenger rights in the cases under review.

The statement read in part:

*“After a number of meetings, including a visit to the NCAA by the Kenyan High Commissioner to Nigeria and officials from the airline and JKIA, Kenya Airways has, on Wednesday 17/09/2025, paid the sanction fee as a penalty for the Gloria Omisore and other consumer protection-related infractions.

As always, NCAA sanctions are not to punish operators, but to help improve their flight operations, especially with regard to safety and passenger handling protocols.”*

Achimugu further noted that while Kenya Airways has a long-standing relationship with Nigeria, the regulatory body expects the airline to make significant improvements in its Nigerian operations.

He added that the sanctions were case-specific and not a blanket indictment of the carrier’s services.

“The payment of sanction fines does not conclude the issues. The timeframe for the resolution of the cases for which this sanction was announced has since elapsed. The NCAA will follow through and is assuring both passengers and airlines of its commitment to protecting their rights and responsibilities,” the statement added.

The development highlights NCAA’s continued insistence on strict enforcement of consumer protection laws within Nigeria’s aviation sector, as the authority maintains zero tolerance for infractions affecting passenger rights.
