“It’s Not Biblical” – Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo Warns Women Against Depending on Men

Kingsley Okonkwo

Founder of David’s Christian Centre, Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo, has cautioned women against relying on men for financial support, stressing that such a belief is cultural and not biblical.

Speaking during a recent sermon, the relationship and marriage coach emphasized that the Bible encourages hard work and independence, not financial dependency.

“It’s Not Biblical”

Okonkwo stated:

“It never favours you. That thing was a cultural idea. It’s not biblical. That a man should take care of a woman is not biblical. What the Bible says is that he that does not work should not eat.”

He questioned why some women suddenly abandon self-reliance after getting into relationships.

“Before you marry, how were you surviving? Before you had a boyfriend, before you had a fiancé, how were you surviving? That’s the question.”

“Poor People Talk”

The pastor further described the belief as “poor people talk”, arguing that women with strong family backgrounds are raised to be independent and not reliant on men.

He added:

“Somebody that has a well-to-do parent that raised them well will send you to the best schools. You’ll finish the best schools, you’ll get one of the best jobs. They won’t leave you to roam around with one boy to pay for you.”

“Stop Letting Men Buy You with Puff Puff”

Pastor Okonkwo also condemned women who compromise their dignity over minor financial favors.

“A boy that buys you puff puff, the way he will squeeze you like puff puff. And the way some of you are being treated is because of how you have rated yourself. If you don’t buy me popcorn, I won’t come. Then the way they will pop you like corn. They are disgracing your family.”

His remarks have since sparked mixed reactions online, with many praising his boldness while others argued that his stance dismisses the traditional role of men as providers in African culture.
