Liverpool’s flawless Premier League start was shattered on Saturday as they fell 2-1 to Crystal Palace, who extended their remarkable unbeaten run to 18 matches in all competitions.
The FA Cup holders struck first when Ismaila Sarr punished poor defending from a corner to give Palace an early lead.
Liverpool, who had relied on late goals to grind out wins in their opening five league matches, looked set for another dramatic rescue when Federico Chiesa swept home an equaliser in the 87th minute.
But Palace had the final say. With virtually the last kick of the game, Eddie Nketiah showed composure in a crowded box to fire past Alisson and seal all three points.
The win moves Palace up to second in the table, just three points behind Liverpool at the top. Arsenal could leapfrog them into second — and cut Liverpool’s lead to two points — if they beat Newcastle on Sunday.
