The much-anticipated Ligue 1 showdown between Marseille and reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has been pushed back nearly 24 hours due to severe weather warnings in southern France.
Regional authorities confirmed that the match, originally scheduled for 20:45 local time (18:45 GMT) on Sunday at the 65,000-capacity Stade Vélodrome, will now take place on Monday at 20:00.
“The match is postponed because there could be heavy rainfall with significant risks of runoff in urban areas,” Georges-François Leclerc, the prefect of the Bouches-du-Rhône department, told AFP.
Officials emphasized that the decision was taken to safeguard both Marseille and PSG players and spectators, noting that “there would be a risk” if the game went ahead as planned.
The rescheduled fixture remains one of the most eagerly awaited in the Ligue 1 calendar, with fans expected to turn out in full force despite the delay.
