BREAKING: National Grid Collapses Again, Power Drops to 1.5MW

The national Grid has collapsed for the first time in 2025

Nigeria suffered yet another national grid collapse on Wednesday, plunging parts of the country into darkness.

According to data obtained from the Independent System Operator (ISO), power generation dropped drastically from 2,917.83 megawatts (MW) to just 1.5MW between 11 am and 12 pm.

The sudden crash disrupted electricity supply nationwide, leaving distribution companies (DisCos) with little or no power to transmit to consumers.

This marks yet another setback for Nigeria’s struggling power sector, which has suffered frequent grid collapses over the years despite efforts by the Federal Government to stabilise the system.

Authorities are yet to provide an official explanation for Wednesday’s collapse at the time of filing this report.
