Newcastle United have reached a verbal agreement to sign Yoane Wissa from Brentford in a deal worth around £55 million, as the Magpies prepare for life without Alexander Isak, who is edging closer to a big-money move to Liverpool.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the 28-year-old forward will undergo medical tests in the North East before completing the switch. Wissa is set to become the club’s latest attacking addition, arriving shortly after the signing of record recruit Nick Woltemade.
The double move is aimed at strengthening Eddie Howe’s front line, following Isak’s decision to force through a transfer and Callum Wilson’s release at the end of last season.
Wissa, who had been pushing for a move all summer, escalated tensions with Brentford over the weekend by issuing a public statement accusing the club of blocking his exit.
With Liverpool now finalising a record-breaking package for Isak, Newcastle have moved quickly to secure Wissa’s arrival, which is expected to be confirmed once all formalities are complete.
