Nick Cannon is opening up about his unconventional fatherhood journey and how past trauma shaped his decisions.
During an appearance on The Breakfast Club, the Masked Singer host, 44, admitted that his path to becoming a father of 12 wasn’t a calculated plan but rather a byproduct of living freely without much reflection.
“It wasn’t like I was acting out. It was more of being careless, being frivolous with my process because I could do it, because I had the money [and] because I had the access to whoever and however I wanted to move,” Cannon explained.
He revealed that while he never set out with the intention of having 12 children, he believed he could handle the responsibility.
“Being almost 45 now, I could sit back and like, yeah, if I would have thought the process through a little bit more and took time to actually do the inner work, things might have been a little different in certain scenarios,” he added.
When co-host Charlamagne tha God asked if healing earlier in life could have changed the outcome, Cannon admitted he wasn’t sure but noted that all of his children were conceived in love and during meaningful relationships.
“If I would have did the work [and] the healing after getting divorced, I probably would have took my time in a lot other scenarios,” he reflected. “Now, you’re leaving trauma every step of the way instead of fixing it from its origin.”
