In a surprising turn, the Federal Government has called off the much-anticipated Independence Anniversary parade slated for Wednesday, October 1, 2025, to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day.
While no reason was given for the sudden cancellation, authorities stressed that the decision does not reduce the importance of the milestone celebration.
The announcement came through a statement issued on Monday by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information & Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
According to the release, “The cancellation is in no way a diminishment of the significance of this milestone anniversary, and the government remains committed to celebrating Nigeria’s 65th year of independence with dignity and enthusiasm. Accordingly, all other programmes slated for the Independence Anniversary will remain in effect.”
The Federal Government expressed regret over any inconvenience caused by the change but reaffirmed its commitment to a memorable celebration under the theme “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.”
The statement further urged Nigerians, members of the diplomatic community, and invited guests to continue supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform agenda aimed at building a stronger nation.
Meanwhile, the government had earlier declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate the 65th Independence anniversary.
