Former Lagos State governorship candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has dismissed claims that he abandoned the party, stressing that his focus is on strengthening a broad political coalition.
Rhodes-Vivour made the clarification on Monday while responding to questions during an interview on Prime Time, a programme on Arise Television.
“The fact that I have constantly remained in the opposition throughout my political career shows more consistency than the average seen in our political circle and culture,” he said.
He explained that internal divisions within the Labour Party led to the formation of factions, with one leaning towards coalition politics.
“I would not say I dumped the Labour Party because, as you know, the party is divided into two factions. One of such factions is pro-coalition. A coalition is the coming together of several political parties and thinkers. And the African Democratic Congress, ADC, is the party that had been adopted for the coalition,” he noted.
Rhodes-Vivour further disclosed that he is now a registered member of the ADC, which is working in alliance with the Obidient movement in Lagos State.
“We are focused on building a robust coalition. I am a registered member of the ADC now. The ADC is in alliance with the Obidients in Lagos State,” he emphasized.
