Rhodes-Vivour Accuses Police of Shielding APC Rally at Venue He Paid For

Lagos LP Guber Candidate Condemns Attacks On Polling Units, Blames APC

The 2023 Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has accused the Nigeria Police of supervising and protecting the All Progressives Congress (APC) to hold a rally at a venue he had already secured.

Rhodes-Vivour made the allegation on Monday while speaking as a guest on Prime Time, a programme on Arise Television. He demanded answers from the Lagos State Commissioner of Police on why such an incident occurred.

“That would be a fantastic question to ask the Commissioner of Police because I have talked about this. We got approval from the police, got the letter, made payments, and they occupied the venue,” he said.

He stressed that the role of the police should be to protect citizens, not to decide who can use public spaces.

“The government needs to start to explain these things because our job is to notify them and their job is to protect the citizens, not to determine who can do what, when and how. That goes against our constitution and the democratic process we are practicing,” Rhodes-Vivour added.

He further accused security operatives of enabling violence.

“The police need to explain how they shepherd thugs to come into a church and completely destroy the assembly of people there and be so violent and watch what literally happened,” he stated.
