Arise Television’s Morning Show anchor, Rufai Oseni, has taken aim at Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, accusing him of focusing on political battles while Nigerians grapple with insecurity.
In a Facebook post on Monday, Oseni faulted Onanuga for launching verbal attacks against former President Goodluck Jonathan, even as bandits reportedly forced residents to flee parts of Kwara South.
“Mr Onanuga is busy attacking Jonathan while people are running for safety due to bandits’ activities in Kwara South. Our leaders don’t have empathy at all,” Oseni wrote.
His comments came shortly after Onanuga issued a statement dismissing renewed calls—particularly from the North—urging Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Onanuga argued that Jonathan’s administration laid the foundation for Nigeria’s current economic woes. “We cannot forget in a hurry how his regime, devoid of any clear economic agenda, engaged in frivolous spending, ran the economy aground, and put the country in dire straits. The downturn that President Tinubu is working very hard to overcome actually began under Jonathan,” he said.
The exchange comes amid mounting speculation and coalition efforts aimed at challenging Tinubu’s reelection bid in 2027, with Jonathan’s name increasingly floated in political circles.
