Kaduna Court Remands Activist Sarki Sultan Over Alleged Cybercrime

Popular social media activist Abubakar Muhammad, widely known as Sarki Sultan, has been remanded at the Kaduna Correctional Centre over alleged cyber offences. The order was issued on Monday by the Rigasa Magistrate Court in Kaduna.

Sultan, who was arrested on September 27 in Rigachikun, Igabi Local Government Area, was arraigned by the Department of State Services (DSS) on a two-count charge of extortion and criminal intimidation, offences said to be contrary to provisions of the Penal Code.

According to the prosecution, Sultan allegedly created multiple fake social media accounts, which he used to harass, threaten, and extort a complainant. The DSS further told the court that he demanded payments through cryptocurrency and POS channels, while also attempting to lure the victim to a location under suspicious circumstances.

The prosecutor revealed that digital evidence — including payment trails, recovered accounts, and online conversations — would be presented during the trial.
