Former lawmaker Shehu Sani has weighed in on ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s recent remarks that Nigerian politics is riddled with betrayal.
Jonathan had stated in Benin, Edo State, during the 70th birthday celebration of Chief Mike Aiyegbeni Oghiadomhe, that he was betrayed while seeking re-election in 2015. According to him, “Politics in the Nigerian standard is about betrayals.”
Responding via X, Sani advised young Nigerians eyeing a career in politics to take lessons from Jonathan’s experience.
“GEJ just said that Nigerian politics is full of betrayers, liars and traitors. I hope young people aspiring to join politics are listening to him and learning from his experience,” the former Kaduna Central Senator wrote.
Sani himself is no stranger to the realities of Nigerian politics, having served in the Senate and contested multiple elections.
Meanwhile, speculations continue to swirl about Jonathan’s possible return in 2027, with some political analysts suggesting he may emerge as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s flagbearer in the next general elections.
