Super Eagles to Face Venezuela in International Friendly Ahead of AFCON

Nigeria’s Super Eagles will take on Venezuela in an international friendly match at the Shell Energy Stadium, Houston, US, on Friday, November 14, 2025.

The encounter will serve as part of Nigeria’s final preparations for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, which kicks off in December. It will also mark the Eagles’ first-ever outing at the Houston venue.

For Venezuela, the clash is a return to familiar ground after their goalless draw with Guatemala at the same stadium earlier this year. Coach Fernando Batista’s side will be aiming to bounce back from a mixed World Cup qualifying campaign that included heavy defeats to Argentina and Colombia.

Meanwhile, Nigeria—currently led by Eric Chelle—will use the fixture to sharpen their squad ahead of AFCON. The Super Eagles are still battling through a tricky World Cup qualifying group, where they edged Rwanda 1-0 but were recently held 1-1 by South Africa, leaving them third in the standings.

This won’t be the first meeting between the two nations. Back in November 2012, Nigeria defeated Venezuela 3-1 in Miami, with Brown Ideye, Nosa Igiebor, and Ogenyi Onazi all on the scoresheet.
