Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has called on President Bola Tinubu to suspend his vacation and immediately return to the country in order to avert what he described as a looming state of anarchy.
In a statement he personally signed, Falana accused the Nigerian government and Senate President Godswill Akpabio of repeatedly disobeying court judgments, warning that such disregard poses a grave threat to the rule of law.
“President Bola Tinubu should prevent the state from collapsing by suspending his vacation and halt the inexorable descent to anarchy and chaos in the country,” he said.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria further urged the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, to take proactive steps to curb the persistent culture of disobedience to court orders.
Falana strongly criticized the Senate under Akpabio’s leadership, describing it as the “most notorious” for ignoring judicial pronouncements. He lamented that the upper chamber, through its actions, has demonstrated open disdain for the judiciary.
According to him,
“Judgments of courts are disobeyed by governments and powerful individuals. The most notorious institution is the Senate under the leadership of Senator Godswill Akpabio.”
