Prominent Nigerian human rights lawyer Femi Falana has criticised the actions of Donald Trump over conflicts involving the United States and its allies in the Middle East.
Falana made the remarks while speaking on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, where he condemned what he described as the war involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria also accused Trump of violating international law through alleged actions in Venezuela, including the reported capture of Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro.
Speaking during the interview, Falana criticised what he described as disregard for international norms and principles.
“Here is a man who can announce to the world that he had invaded Venezuela and captured the President of the country. He did this without regard to international law and principles,” he said.
He also questioned the United States’ approach to Iran, arguing that the policy appeared inconsistent and poorly defined.
According to him, Trump claimed the goal was to prevent Iran from developing nuclear power or supporting militant groups, but Falana suggested the actions contradicted those objectives.
Falana went further to accuse the U.S. president of using violence to achieve political goals, which he said undermines global stability.
“And who is the leading terrorist in the world today? He is a man who can wake up and say, ‘I am going to kill the head of state of another country,’” he said.
He argued that such statements and actions threaten international order and questioned the legitimacy of one country imposing its authority on others.
“How dare you? Who are you that you have to take over the entire world?” Falana asked during the interview.
The lawyer has previously called on U.S. institutions and the international community to examine the legality of the alleged intervention in Venezuela, warning that unilateral military actions undermine global norms and the principles of sovereignty
