“The words hurt, but my spirit was not broken” – Toke Makinwa Shares Powerful Message to Women Still Waiting on Marriage and Motherhood

Toke Makinwa Shares Powerful Message to Women Still Waiting on Marriage and Motherhood

Nigerian media personality Toke Makinwa has shared words of encouragement to women who are yet to marry or have children, urging them not to give in to societal pressure.

CREEBHILLS earlier reported in August that the former OAP welcomed her first child, a baby girl named Yakira Eliana, at the age of 40. Describing motherhood as the happiest moment of her life, Toke said her daughter has shown her a love she never knew existed.

Facing Negativity

Taking to Instagram, Toke revealed some of the hurtful messages she received from trolls but stressed that she isn’t one to dwell on negativity. According to her, no matter how successful a woman becomes in her career, society tends to glorify the things she hasn’t achieved yet, such as marriage or children.

“Marriage has become some sort of yardstick to fulfilment, and if you don’t have a child yet, hmmmmmm! Very loaded sigh,” she wrote.

Despite the criticism, Toke said she is thankful she didn’t settle and instead waited for God’s timing, which she described as perfect.

Her Advice to Women

Toke admitted that negativity pushed her into hiding during her pregnancy, but she leaned on her faith to overcome fear.

“The words hurt, but my spirit was not broken. They only reminded God about me… Hold on, drown out the noise, focus on the Vine, let Him do the heavy lifting, and celebrate yourself at every stage. You are becoming, and everything good will come,” she advised.

She also encouraged women not to feel like they are “running out of time,” reminding them that God’s timing is always right.

A Word of Hope

Toke ended her message with a note of encouragement to anyone waiting—whether for marriage, children, or other life milestones:

“Congratulations in advance to anyone waiting, it doesn’t have to be a child; whatever you’re waiting on, it’s here.”
