Wike Slams Ganduje, Oyinlola, Idiagbon Family, Others With ₦5m Fine Over Illegal Property Conversions in Abuja

Insecurity: Reps summon Wike, DSS DG and others

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has imposed a ₦5 million fine on several prominent Nigerians and institutions for the unlawful conversion of residential properties into commercial outlets in Abuja.

The sanction was published in national dailies, with all affected persons given a 30-day ultimatum to comply, setting September 10, 2025 as the payment deadline.

According to the FCT administration, the decision followed a review of land use conditions across 15 major streets in Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse 2, Garki 1, and Garki 2.

Big Names on the Sanction List

  • Abdullahi Ganduje, former APC National Chairman, for converting a Wuse 2 residence into a banking hall.

  • Family of late General Tunde Idiagbon, whose Maitama home was turned into Serendib Hotel and Suites.

  • Olagunsoye Oyinlola, ex-Osun Governor, for transforming a property at Yakubu Gowon Crescent, Asokoro, into Zhouyi Hotel.

  • Two former Chief Justices of Nigeria, Atanda Fatai-Williams and Aloma Mariam Mukhtar, for converting residences into commercial premises.

  • Senator Shehu Sani, Okauru Okauru (ex-Governors Forum DG), and Lt. Gen. Rufus Kupolati (rtd.), for converting homes into showrooms and a gym.

  • Former FCT Minister Abba Gana, the NNPC, and the Nigeria Police, also cited for similar breaches.

Wike further directed that new title documents be issued to sanctioned owners after they meet all financial and regulatory conditions, with the updated land use now valid for 99 years.
