Former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has restated his unwavering commitment to the party, declaring that he would never join any other political platform unless the SDP ceases to exist.
Adebayo, who contested in the 2023 presidential election, revealed that he has been a loyal member of the SDP since 1991, when he joined the party at just 19 years old.
“The only political party I have ever joined in my life is the SDP, and that’s where I will remain unless the party ceases to exist,” Adebayo said.
Addressing speculations that the SDP was allegedly working in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adebayo dismissed the claims as false.
“My politics is entirely within the SDP. While some individuals may have sympathies elsewhere, such acts are not tolerated within our structure,” he stated.
The SDP chieftain explained that the party is currently being rejuvenated by a new generation of young politicians who are determined to restore its founding ideals of fairness, equity, and justice.
He further emphasized that the SDP’s manifesto remains grounded in constitutional values — promoting good governance, accountability, and the rule of law.
On the state of the nation, Adebayo expressed concern over the persistent challenges of corruption, poor governance, and economic mismanagement, blaming successive governments for failing to deliver on promises of national development.
“Nigeria’s progress has been crippled by leaders who prioritise personal gain over public good,” he lamented.
Adebayo reaffirmed that the SDP would continue to promote issue-based politics and ethical leadership, with a renewed focus on rebuilding public trust ahead of the 2027 general elections.
