Bournemouth climbed to second place in the Premier League after a thrilling late turnaround saw them defeat Fulham 3-1 on Friday night.
The Cherries looked destined for their first league defeat since the opening day loss to Liverpool when Ryan Sessegnon struck for the visitors in the 70th minute.
But Antoine Semenyo sparked the comeback with a brilliant solo effort before Justin Kluivert fired a stunning strike into the top corner. Deep into stoppage time, Semenyo struck again on the counter-attack to seal the victory and his brace.
The result means Andoni Iraola’s side are now just one point behind leaders Liverpool, who face Chelsea on Sunday.
Bournemouth’s strong start is even more remarkable given the summer departures of key players. Defenders Dean Huijsen, Milos Kerkez, and Illia Zabarnyi all left for major European clubs — Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Paris Saint-Germain respectively.
Speaking after the match, Semenyo praised his teammates and the club’s resilience:
“It’s a great feeling. We lost so many important players for us, but the start to the season has been great and it’s a great environment to be a part of.”
