“Boko Haram used drones in Dikwa” – Borno Governor Zulum Raises Alarm

Borno Governor Zulum Raises Alarm

The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum, has expressed deep concern over reports that Boko Haram insurgents are now deploying unmanned drones to carry out surveillance and attacks in parts of Nigeria’s North-East region.

Governor Zulum disclosed while speaking in Mafa, following a recent attack by the insurgents. He urged the Federal Government to immediately review and strengthen the country’s airspace security to counter what he described as a “highly worrisome” development.

“The major issue I want to raise here is the use of drones. I was informed that they used drones in Dikwa. This is extremely worrisome,” Zulum said, according to a report monitored on BBC Hausa Service in Kaduna.

The governor warned that the proliferation of drones in the hands of enemies of the state poses a grave threat to national security. He called for urgent inter-agency collaboration to address the emerging tactic.

“The increasing use of drones by adversaries is highly dangerous. We must come together and act decisively to tackle this new dimension,” he added.

Zulum further emphasized the need to tighten border security and enhance Nigeria’s aerial defence systems, stressing that proactive measures must be taken without delay.

“We need to improve the protection of our airspace. This is an urgent step that should not be delayed,” the governor stated.
