American R&B singer Brandy Norwood has spoken out after abruptly ending her concert in Chicago on Saturday night, October 18, due to a health emergency.
The 46-year-old singer, who was performing alongside Monica during their ongoing The Boy Is Mine Tour, left the stage mid-performance and did not return — prompting concern from fans and an outpouring of support online.
Taking to Instagram on Sunday, October 19, Brandy expressed gratitude to her fans while revealing the reason behind the sudden incident.
“Thank you all for the overwhelming love, support, and — most importantly — your prayers,” she began.
“I sincerely apologize for the abrupt end to last night’s performance in Chicago. After weeks of nonstop rehearsals, last night I experienced dehydration and feelings of wanting to faint. Everyone involved agreed that prioritizing my well-being was of the utmost importance.”
The Grammy-winning star explained that despite feeling unwell, she initially attempted to return to the stage but was unable to continue due to the show’s technical demands.
“I still made the decision to try and return and give it my all despite not feeling okay. With having to make some adjustments and the show being very technical, unfortunately, it was impossible to fully connect sonically with the production. I really appreciate everyone’s best efforts,” she added.
Following her exit, Monica, 44, completed the rest of the performance solo. However, fans were left disappointed as the pair did not perform their 1998 hit song “The Boy Is Mine.”
Brandy went on to thank Monica for her professionalism and support during the health scare.
“I’m deeply grateful to my sister, Monica, for stepping up with such grace and professionalism, and to the entire crew for their continued care and support. I went from the arena to see a doctor nearby and have taken the proper precautions to help moving forward.”
She concluded her message by assuring fans of her recovery and promising to return stronger.
“Your understanding, patience, and unwavering belief mean the world to me. I look forward to returning to the stage — stronger and more grateful than ever — alongside my girl, Monica, tonight in Indianapolis.”
Monica also showed support by reposting Brandy’s statement on her Instagram Stories.
