Grammy Award-winning American singer and global superstar Ciara Wilson has delighted fans by embracing Nigerian culture during her visit to Lagos.
A viral video shared on Instagram on Friday captured the 40-year-old star learning the Yoruba Bata dance, dressed elegantly in a blue adire gown with a matching headgear. The clip showed Ciara moving gracefully to the rhythm as a local instructor guided her through the traditional dance steps.
The singer’s cultural moment formed part of her ongoing visit to Lagos, which celebrates the state’s growing global prominence in tourism, art, and fashion.
According to Lagos State officials, Ciara’s trip is being described as a “homecoming”, coinciding with the 15th anniversary of Lagos Fashion Week — an event she attended alongside prominent Nigerian creatives.
The visit was first announced on Thursday by Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Lagos State, via X (formerly Twitter).
“International Superstar, Grammy Award Winner, CIARA Princess Wilson is in Lagos, accompanied by the Commissioner for Tourism, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka,” Gawat wrote.
“She will be joining us in Lagos to celebrate our Tourism, our Art, and our Culture. It’s a homecoming for her and other creatives who see Lagos as home.”
He further confirmed that Ciara’s itinerary includes visits to cultural landmarks and markets, including Balogun Market, one of Lagos’ busiest commercial centers.
In another clip that has gone viral, Ciara expressed admiration for the visible improvements in Lagos’ infrastructure since her last visit, applauding the city’s evolution as a vibrant hub of African creativity and culture.
