Afrobeats superstar Davido has revealed why he picked Akwa Ibom State as the first Nigerian stop for his highly anticipated concert series.
Speaking at a pre-concert reception held in Uyo on Sunday — hosted by Governor Umo Eno and Senate President Godswill Akpabio — the multi-award-winning singer explained that Akwa Ibom’s world-class infrastructure and peaceful environment made it the perfect destination.
According to him, the facilities in the state stood out among other options across Africa, making it the ideal venue for his first live concert in Nigeria after 14 years on stage.
“When we were looking around Africa, five places came, and Akwa Ibom was at the top of the list. A lot of people are flying from other states that don’t have this type of facility,” Davido said.
He described the state as “beautiful” and expressed his desire to take his music to other parts of the country — if similar infrastructure existed nationwide.
“We toured America already, and it was a great success. We were looking for a good facility around Africa, and Akwa Ibom is one of the places that we found out. You have a standard facility; that’s why we are starting here. As time goes on, we will keep doing the other states,” he added.
The Unavailable crooner also praised Governor Eno for his administration’s focus on peace, security, and youth empowerment, noting that such efforts create opportunities for young talents to thrive.
In his remarks, Senate President Akpabio commended Governor Eno’s leadership, describing him as a youth- and sports-friendly governor. He also lauded Davido for his positive influence on young Nigerians and urged him to spotlight upcoming Akwa Ibom artists during his international tours.
Governor Umo Eno expressed gratitude to Davido for inspiring the younger generation through his hard work and consistency.
“We want to thank you for being an inspiration to the younger generation. You have taken your career to the zenith, and it shows that what the youths set their hands to do is possible and achievable. Thank you for sharing the stage with our local entertainers — it gives them hope that one day, they too can be like you,” Eno said.
