Diddy to Appeal Conviction and Four-Year Prison Sentence
Sean “Diddy” Combs is preparing to appeal his recent conviction and prison sentence, according to a notice filed on Monday in the Federal District Court of New York.
Court documents obtained by TMZ reveal that the notice lists Alexandra Shapiro as Combs’ attorney. His legal team is expected to file a detailed brief outlining the basis of the appeal within four to six weeks.
While the filing did not specify the grounds for the appeal, Combs’ lawyers have previously argued that the statute used in his conviction — transportation for the purposes of prostitution — was misapplied and should not have formed the basis of the charges.
The 54-year-old music mogul was convicted in July on two counts of prostitution-related offenses following an eight-week trial. However, the jury acquitted him of more serious sex trafficking and racketeering charges.
On October 3, Judge Arun Subramanian sentenced Diddy to just over four years in federal prison. The judge also recommended that the Bad Boy Records founder serve his sentence as close as possible to the New York City metropolitan area.
For now, Diddy remains in custody at the Brooklyn Detention Centre, awaiting transfer. His lawyers have requested that the court recommend he be assigned to the low-security Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Fort Dix in New Jersey.
The upcoming appeal will determine whether Diddys’ conviction stands or is overturned — a move that could mark a major turning point in the ongoing legal battle surrounding the hip-hop icon.
