Nigerian rapper Erigga has spoken out against polygamy, describing it as a system that causes emotional harm to women and children.
In an interview with Yanga FM Lagos, the rapper drew from his personal experience growing up in a polygamous family, explaining that such arrangements often leave lasting emotional scars.
According to him, polygamous homes rarely end without pain, and the victims are almost always the women and children — not the man.
“I am trying not to be like my father. I don’t like polygamy; one person gets hurt, which is the woman. There’s never a polygamous situation where the man gets hurt; it’s always the woman and the kids,” he said.
Erigga added that he intends to break the cycle by avoiding polygamy altogether, urging men to embrace monogamy, which he described as less complicated and more fulfilling for everyone involved.
