“He wasn’t trivializing menstrual pain” – Yvonne Jegede Slams Pastor Femi Lazarus Over Comment on Women’s Menstrual Pain

Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has criticized Pastor Femi Lazarus, lead pastor of Light Nation Church in Abuja, over his controversial remarks about women’s menstrual cycles.

The cleric sparked outrage after a video from one of his sermons went viral. In the clip, he suggested that women’s mood swings during menstruation were not biological but a matter of attitude.

He said:

“You are not the first woman to see your period, so your menstruation is not the problem. I have never seen anywhere in the Bible any woman complain about menstrual pain. You are simply not a peaceful person.”

The statement triggered widespread backlash on social media, with many Nigerians accusing the pastor of being insensitive to women’s experiences.

Reacting via Instagram on Wednesday, Yvonne Jegede condemned the comment, urging men to stop making assumptions about issues they have never personally experienced.

She wrote:

“Yesterday I saw a trending video of a clergyman seemingly trivializing menstrual pain. If you’ve never experienced the hormonal changes that women go through during their periods, ovulations and pregnancy, please don’t make bold statements about things you haven’t experienced. Men, please be kind.”

While many social media users agreed with Yvonne’s stance, others defended Pastor Lazarus, claiming his words were taken out of context.

One Instagram user, Angie Joseph, commented:

“He wasn’t trivializing menstrual pain. Kindly listen to the sermon to understand his context. My cramps are so bad that sometimes I end up in the hospital, but that doesn’t make me a mannerless person.”

As of press time, Pastor Lazarus has not publicly responded to the growing backlash.
