I’m not interested in Eric Chelle’s job – Eguavoen

I’m still in charge, Eguavoen denies stepping down as Eagles coach

Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Austin Eguavoen, has dismissed reports linking him to the Super Eagles’ head coach position, saying he has no interest in taking over the job.

Recent media reports had claimed that the NFF was considering Eguavoen and Ladan Bosso as potential replacements for Coach Eric Chelle if the Super Eagles fail to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The reports also suggested that both men could lead the team to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Reacting to the speculation, Eguavoen expressed disappointment over what he called “baseless rumours.”

“I feel very hurt by these baseless rumours because I really have no idea where they are coming from. I have a very good working relationship with Coach Eric Chelle, and I have absolutely no interest in taking over the squad. I am praying for him to succeed,” he told thenff.com.

The Super Eagles are set to return to action on Friday when they face the Crocodiles of Lesotho in a World Cup qualifier.
