American rapper Lil Durk is seeking to have his federal murder-for-hire charges dismissed, arguing that prosecutors have failed to provide sufficient details about the alleged bounty he placed on fellow rapper Quando Rondo in 2022.
In a new motion filed by his legal team, Durk (real name Durk Banks) claims the indictment is too vague, making it impossible to properly prepare a defense.
“This indictment is impermissibly vague,” his lawyers wrote. “It leaves the defense to guess as to the government’s theory of guilt, and it leaves the government free to change that theory as its cooperators’ stories morph over time to meet the demands of a conviction.”
Lil Durk was arrested last year on allegations that he ordered members of his Only The Family (OTF) crew to travel to Los Angeles and shoot Quando Rondo. The 2022 shooting, which occurred at a Los Angeles gas station, left Rondo (real name Tyquian Bowman) unharmed, but his associate Lul Pab (real name Saviay’a Robinson) was killed.
Durk’s attorneys argue that a valid murder-for-hire charge must explicitly state what reward was offered and how it was communicated. However, prosecutors have only alleged that Lil Durk used “coded language” to indicate that Rondo’s killers would receive money or “lucrative music opportunities.”
This latest motion marks the second attempt by Durk’s defense team to have the case thrown out since his October 2024 arrest.
The Chicago rapper remains in custody awaiting trial, after multiple unsuccessful attempts to secure bail.
