Newcastle United secured a much-needed 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, extending Ange Postecoglou’s winless start to life at the club and deepening the uncertainty surrounding his future.
Forest fans voiced their frustration throughout the match, with chants calling for Postecoglou’s dismissal echoing across the City Ground — just a week after their 3-2 Europa League loss to Midtjylland.
The Australian manager has now gone seven games without a win, becoming the first Forest boss in over a century to endure such a poor start. Club owner Evangelos Marinakis is reportedly considering his options during the upcoming international break.
After a slow first half, Bruno Guimaraes broke the deadlock in the 58th minute with a stunning long-range strike that left Forest goalkeeper Matt Turner rooted to the spot.
The Brazilian midfielder later won a penalty after dispossessing former teammate Elliot Anderson inside the box. Nick Woltemade, who joined Newcastle from Stuttgart last month, confidently converted the spot-kick for his fourth goal in just a few appearances.
The result lifts Newcastle out of their early-season slump after winning just one of their opening six Premier League games, while Forest slip to 17th, hovering dangerously above the relegation zone.
Postecoglou’s future now hangs in the balance, with mounting pressure and a crucial decision expected from the Forest hierarchy in the coming days.
