Human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, has expressed concern over Nigeria’s continued stagnation, stating that the country will never realize its true potential as long as corrupt and incompetent leaders remain in power.
In a post shared on X on Sunday, Effiong urged Nigerians to confront what he called a “rotten system” rather than expecting “criminally minded politicians” to reform themselves. He argued that it is unrealistic to believe that such leaders will ever prioritize national progress.
Effiong said: “Nigeria will never fulfill its true potentials as long as Nigerians continue to allow the worst among them to rule the country.
“The expectation that the criminals and criminally minded politicians who are ruining the country will someday become circumspect, and begin to work for the progress of Nigeria is delusional.
“We either confront this rotten system and those operating it or we live in perpetual servitude.”
His comments have sparked discussions online, with many Nigerians agreeing that systemic change is necessary to move the nation forward.
