Afrobeats sensation Omah Lay has voiced his dissatisfaction with the current state of Nigeria’s music scene, describing it as “boring.”
Taking to his Snapchat, the “Holy Ghost” crooner lamented that the Nigerian music industry is losing its excitement, hinting that he plans to bring a new wave of creativity soon.
“Una music industry is boring AF! Spirit is coming to f**k up the continent in a bit,” Omah Lay wrote.
His comment comes shortly after fellow Nigerian artist Slimcase also expressed similar concerns about the direction of Afrobeats.
According to Slimcase, the genre is beginning to sound repetitive because artists are releasing too much music without giving fans enough time to anticipate new songs.
The “Shaku Shaku” hitmaker urged Afrobeats artists to slow down their release frequency, warning that the constant flood of songs could “kill the excitement” that once defined the genre.
Fans have since reacted to Omah Lay’s post, with some agreeing that the industry needs more originality and others defending the current wave of Afrobeats creativity.
