The Ondo State Police Command has redeployed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Enu-Owa Division in Ondo West Local Government Area following a viral video involving social media influencer Adefolarin Ayomiposi, popularly known as Mandy Kiss.
In a statement on Tuesday, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, described the DPO’s conduct as “unprofessional” and “contrary to police standards.”
The viral video showed Mandy Kiss filming and taking photos of two women who were in police custody. The women, identified as Mrs. Akinwole Sabitu and her daughter Oyindamola, were accused of cyberbullying the influencer.
According to the police, Mandy Kiss allegedly tracked and arrested the suspects with help from her social media followers before handing them over to the Enu-Owa Division. She later recorded and posted the footage online, sparking widespread outrage.
Commissioner Lawal criticised the DPO for failing to maintain decorum and professionalism, stating that such behaviour undermines the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force.
“Recording or photographing suspects in custody violates established ethical standards and undermines the presumption of innocence guaranteed under the law,” Lawal said.
He further noted that the command would not tolerate any act capable of eroding public trust in the police, adding that the case was under review to prevent future occurrences.
The video, which circulated widely on social media, drew backlash from Nigerians who accused Mandy Kiss and the officers involved of publicly humiliating the suspects.
As of the time of filing this report, Mandy Kiss had not issued any public response to the police’s disciplinary action or the ongoing review.
