Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Divine Ikubor, better known as Rema, has been recognised on the 2025 TIME100 Next list, which celebrates the world’s most influential rising stars.
Published on Tuesday, the list highlights trailblazers across industries including music, film, sports, science, politics, and philanthropy.
Rema stands out as the only African artist honoured this year. His profile was penned by legendary Beninese singer and multiple Grammy-winner, Angélique Kidjo, who praised his global impact.
“The young Nigerian superstar has accomplished so much: Calm Down has joined the billion-streams club twice over,” Kidjo wrote.
She added: “Rema is the embodiment of the international success of Afrobeats. Thanks to artists like him, African music is at the forefront of global culture.”
Other global talents featured on the list include music stars Teyana Taylor and GloRilla, alongside emerging leaders in various fields.
This recognition cements his position as one of Africa’s leading voices on the global stage.
