Global music icons Shakira and The Weeknd have been appointed to the FIFA Global Citizen Education Board as preparations intensify for the 2026 World Cup.
The duo will collaborate with other renowned figures from entertainment, sports, and business — including Ivanka Trump, Hugh Jackman, Gianni Infantino, Hugh Evans, and Serena Williams — to guide efforts aimed at making education more accessible worldwide.
Through a partnership between FIFA and Global Citizen, the initiative seeks to harness the unifying power of football to support children’s education across the globe. The goal is to raise $100 million (£75 million) to reach 100,000 children in over 200 communities.
According to a media release, the participating celebrities will use their experiences and influence to help ensure that the fund “achieves maximum impact” ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Global Citizen’s collaboration with FIFA comes as the organization reports that around 350 million children globally are currently out of school.
This development follows the announcement earlier this year that Coldplay’s Chris Martin will curate FIFA’s first-ever Super Bowl-style halftime show for the 2026 tournament, which will conclude with the final on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
