The Super Eagles of Nigeria had a narrow escape on Saturday after a window on their aircraft reportedly developed a crack midair while returning from South Africa.
According to Sahara Reporters, the ValueJet flight conveying the national team was forced to make an emergency landing in Angola after the pilot detected the fault.
A senior official of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), who confirmed the incident, described it as “a close call that could have been worse,” expressing gratitude that no injuries were recorded.
The Super Eagles were en route to Uyo, Akwa Ibom, where they are scheduled to play a crucial FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Benin Republic on Tuesday.
The encounter is a must-win for Nigeria, who currently sit third in Group C with 14 points — behind Benin Republic with 17 points and South Africa with 15.
The team is expected to arrive safely in Uyo ahead of the high-stakes final round of matches as they battle to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
