The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has accused his critics of enjoying the very infrastructure projects he is delivering, despite opposing his administration.
Wike made the remarks on Friday while flagging off the construction of the Transit Way, N2, a major road linking the Central Area to Wuse District and featuring two new bridges.
“When you are doing your work, people may hate you,” Wike said. “All those who hate us are using the road, they will use the water, they will use the street light. They just look for opportunities to come closer to us, and because we are strict, the only way they can do so is through blackmail. But in our dictionary, there is no blackmail—only hard work to satisfy our people.”
The minister also issued a stern warning to the FCT Mandate Secretary on Security, expressing dissatisfaction over the lack of updates on 12 newly constructed police stations across the capital.
“We have built not less than 12 police stations, yet you have not briefed me on how many are ready. The day I go myself and find out, that will be your last day in office. Being director is not about wearing Agbada and a black cap; your assignment is to ensure these stations are completed and handed over to improve security,” he declared.
Wike further disclosed that flag-offs of new projects will continue until October 20, with plans to commission key infrastructure in November. According to him, these initiatives are designed to improve the FCT’s security, stimulate its economy, and enhance the capital’s overall outlook.
