Lieutenant Ahmed Yerima, the Navy officer who gained public attention after a viral confrontation with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has tied the knot in Kaduna.
A video of the traditional ceremony surfaced online on Saturday, showing Lieutenant Yerima seated beside his bride at her family home.
In accordance with northern customary practice, an elderly woman, believed to be a close relative of the bride, sat between the couple during the proceedings.
Yerima rose to prominence after a video captured his engagement with Minister Wike during a land-related dispute in Abuja, sparking widespread online discussion. Recently, reports circulated alleging an assassination attempt on the officer, but the claims were quickly debunked by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command.
SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police spokesperson, clarified that no such attack took place. A follow-up statement explained that the incident in question was part of a routine stop-and-search operation conducted on November 16 at about 6:15 p.m. at NNPC Junction along Kubwa Expressway. The operation involved an ash-coloured Toyota Camry with a concealed number plate and fully tinted windows.
“The attention of FCT Police Command has been drawn to publications alleging an attack on Lt. Ahmed Yerima. We wish to state that these publications are false and grossly misleading,” the statement read.
With the controversy behind him, Lieutenant Yerima celebrated his union with his bride in accordance with traditional customs, marking a new chapter in his life.
