Music executive and entrepreneur Audu Maikori, founder of Chocolate City Group, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Maikori was formally received into the ruling party by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani during the Kaduna State Zone 3 Mega Rally held in Kafanchan, Southern Kaduna.
The event also marked a significant political development as President Bola Tinubu, represented by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, welcomed at least ten prominent defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and their supporters into the APC.
Among the new defectors were Senator Sunday Katung, Rep. Daniel Amos, and Ali Kalat, a member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
Gbajabiamila commended the development as a testament to APC’s growing influence, while Speaker Abbas Tajudeen described it as a historic shift for Southern Kaduna, traditionally a PDP stronghold.
Audu Maikori, a lawyer, entrepreneur, and music business mogul, is best known as the founder of Chocolate City, one of Nigeria’s leading record labels that has produced top artists like M.I Abaga and Ice Prince.
Though Maikori previously had a contentious relationship with the Kaduna State government — particularly with former Governor Nasir El-Rufai over his comments on the Southern Kaduna crisis, which led to his arrest — he later won a court judgment asserting that his fundamental rights had been violated.
In recent times, however, Maikori has shown greater alignment with the Uba Sani administration. Political observers suggest that his entry into the APC could pave the way for future political ambitions in Kaduna State.
