The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has confirmed that Nollywood actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has been formally added to the Lagos State Sex Offenders Register following his conviction for sexually assaulting a minor.
The clarification comes amid reports falsely claiming the actor had been cleared by the Court of Appeal. Lagos Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro (SAN), debunked the claims, stating:
“Mr Olanrewaju James was not cleared of the offences of sexual assault and indecent treatment of a child.”
Pedro urged the public to disregard the misinformation and cautioned actor Yomi Fabiyi and any platform spreading the false narrative to desist immediately.
The DSVA also confirmed the update, saying:
“In line with Section 37 of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency Law 2021, his name has been duly entered into the Lagos State Sex Offenders Register.
This measure supports ongoing efforts to protect minors, strengthen accountability, and ensure that accurate information is available to the public.”
Pedro further explained that while the Court of Appeal in June 2024 set aside older charges from 2013/2014, it upheld the convictions relating to the sexual assault of Princess’ foster child. The Supreme Court later struck out Baba Ijesha’s subsequent appeal, and a further motion for a new appeal was dismissed in October.
He emphasized that Baba Ijesha’s release from prison was solely because he had completed his sentence — not because he was acquitted.
