Barcelona Rule Out Permanent Move for Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford Scores First Barcelona Goals in Champions League Win at Newcastle

Barcelona sporting director Deco has confirmed that the club will not exercise Marcus Rashford’s buy option before next summer, despite the English forward’s impressive start to life in La Liga.

Speaking during a media briefing at Camp Nou, Deco explained that the club intends to prioritize other strategic reinforcements in the January transfer window.

“If we are doing well and there are no surprises, I don’t think it’s necessary,” Deco said. “We know where we can improve and the difficulties we face.”

Rashford joined Barcelona on loan from Manchester United after falling out of favour under new manager Ruben Amorim. Since his arrival, the 28-year-old has rediscovered his form under Hansi Flick, contributing key performances — including a brace in the Champions League against Olympiacos and a vital assist in El Clásico.

The England international has thrived in the absence of Raphinha, cementing his place as the club’s first-choice left winger. His resurgence has also earned him a recall to the England national team, where he is in strong contention for Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad next year.

Flick praised Rashford’s consistency and impact, describing him as “a very important player” for the team, while the player himself expressed satisfaction with his progress following Barcelona’s 3–1 win over Elche.

“I’m pleased with how things are going, but I’m focused on improving even more,” Rashford said.

Barcelona return to action on Sunday against Celta Vigo, after which Rashford will join the England camp for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Albania.
