Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has convicted Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), on charges relating to membership of a banned terrorist organisation and incitement of violence.
Delivering his judgment, which is still ongoing, Justice Omotosho found Nnamdi Kanu guilty on counts three, four, and five of the seven-count charge filed against him by the Federal Government.
The court held that the prosecution successfully established that Kanu is a member of IPOB—which has been formally proscribed—as well as its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
Justice Omotosho further ruled that the prosecution proved its case that Nnamdi Kanu, through numerous broadcasts, incited his followers to engage in violent acts. According to the judgment, these incitements led to the killing of security personnel and widespread destruction of property, including attacks on police stations across the country.
