Football fan Arrested for Allegedly Abusing Mason Mount During Tottenham clash

Mount

A 19-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly directing abusive remarks at Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount during last weekend’s Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur.

The incident occurred in the 72nd minute, shortly after Mount came on as a substitute for Matheus Cunha. According to police, a stadium staff member overheard the offensive comment and immediately reported it.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed the arrest in a statement:

“On Saturday, 8 November, a member of the crowd was removed from a football match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The man had been heard making an offensive comment by a member of staff, who reported it to the police.
The man, aged 19, was arrested that day on suspicion of intentionally causing harassment, alarm, or distress. He was later bailed pending further enquiries.
No specific victims have been identified during the investigation.”

Tottenham Hotspur also issued a firm response, condemning any form of discriminatory or abusive behaviour. The club confirmed that it is cooperating with the investigation and reiterated its zero-tolerance stance:

“The club is aware of a supporter being arrested for alleged verbal abuse of an opposition player during Saturday’s Premier League fixture.
Prior to the game, all ticket holders received guidance regarding discriminatory chanting, specifically homophobic chanting.
Any supporter found to have used discriminatory language will face the strongest possible action under our Sanctions and Banning Policy, and will be required to undergo a fan education programme.”

Spurs emphasised their ongoing commitment to creating an inclusive environment for all fans:

“We work tirelessly with all our supporters’ associations to ensure a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere on matchdays, with zero tolerance for all forms of discrimination.”

The investigation is ongoing as regards the verbal abuse on Mason Mount.
