Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reiterated the urgent need for a stronger and more coordinated security architecture in Nigeria, following the attack on the convoy of former Anambra State Governor, Chris Ngige.
Obi, in a post on his verified X handle on Friday, condemned the incident, describing it as “painful and unacceptable.”
CREEBHILLS reports that Ngige’s convoy was ambushed on Thursday along the Nkpor–Nnobi Road in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State. The attack claimed the life of an innocent woman and left a police orderly seriously injured.
Reacting to the tragic development, Peter Obi said the incident serves as yet another troubling reminder of the “needless and avoidable bloodshed” occurring across the country.
He stressed that the growing insecurity demands decisive, coordinated action from all levels of government, supported by active citizen cooperation.
“Yesterday, while I was overseas, I received the deeply distressing news of the attack on the convoy of my elder brother, Sen. Chris Ngige. Upon my return today, I visited him in Alor to personally sympathize with him and to thank God for preserving his life,” Obi wrote.
“No Nigerian should live in fear, and no one should lose their life in such senseless circumstances.”
Peter Obi expressed condolences to the family of the woman killed in the attack, calling for renewed commitment to safeguarding the lives of all citizens.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the family of the woman who lost her life. We must remain committed to building a Nigeria where the sanctity of human life is upheld and where every citizen can move freely and safely,” he added.
