RHOLagos Star Mariam Timmer Opens Up About IVF Struggles and Thyroid Disorder

Mariam Timmer, star of The Real Housewives of Lagos (RHOLagos), has revealed the personal challenges she faced behind the cameras, including struggles with IVF and a thyroid disorder.

In an interview with TheCable, Mariam admitted that her health issues made filming the reality show emotionally taxing.

“With everything, dealing with my IVF, I found out during that process that I had thyroid issues. I was just angry at everything,” she said.

She explained that viewers sometimes misread her reactions, which were influenced by the stress of fertility treatments and ongoing medical challenges.

“I had thyroid issues while I was shooting Real Housewives. It is not like I do not eat healthy, I do not do stupid stuff, so why am I getting all this? Is it not enough that I have fibroids? Now it is thyroid,” Mariam added.

Mariam’s path to reality TV was unexpected. A political science graduate, she began her career in PR, became a mother, and later joined RHOLagos in Season 1, Episode 4. On the show, she said she simply tried to be herself.

“I was just myself; I was not trying to change who I am,” she revealed.

In a separate interview with This Day, Mariam reflected on societal pressures and motherhood, noting that she went public with her struggles to raise awareness and break the silence that many women endure.

“Because a lot of people are going through this, but our culture does not allow them to speak up,” she said.

While Mariam still hopes to have another child, she emphasises prioritising her mental and emotional well-being.

“Am I still gonna try? Yes. Is it top of my priority? No. If God wants to give me only one child, it’s fine. He should give me money, peace of mind and the help to train this child,” she concluded.

Her candid revelations highlight the often unseen emotional toll of fertility struggles and health challenges, particularly for women in the public eye.
