The first trailer for Michael — the highly anticipated biopic about the life of pop legend Michael Jackson — has shattered viewing records to become the most-watched music biopic trailer ever released.
Starring the late icon’s real-life nephew Jaafar Jackson in the title role, the film will chronicle Michael Jackson’s rise to global stardom and complex personal journey. Oscar nominee Colman Domingo stars as his father, Joe Jackson.
According to WaveMetrix, the trailer garnered over 116.2 million views worldwide within 24 hours of its debut, making it not only the top-performing music biopic trailer but also Lionsgate’s most-viewed movie preview in history, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
The star-studded cast also includes Miles Teller as attorney John Branca, Kat Graham as Diana Ross, Nia Long as Katherine Jackson, Laura Harrier as Suzanne de Passe, Kendrick Sampson as Quincy Jones, and Juliano Krue Valdias a young Michael.
Set for global release on April 24, 2026, Michael promises an intimate yet epic retelling of Jackson’s life and legacy.
While rumors suggest the film could be split into two parts, Lionsgate has yet to confirm. However, studio chair Adam Fogelson hinted that the creative team is preparing for “more Michael soon after the first film’s release.”
