Miss Universe Africa Resigns Title, Cites Personal Values

Ivorian beauty queen Olivia Yacé, who emerged fourth runner-up and won the Miss Universe Africa & Oceania continental crown at Miss Universe 2025, has formally renounced her title, citing her commitment to integrity and deeply held personal values.

The Miss Côte d’Ivoire Committee (COMICI) announced the development on Monday, Nov. 24, confirming that Yacé has withdrawn from all titles and mandates issued by the Miss Universe Organization. In its statement, COMICI expressed regret and noted that her resignation is effective immediately, adding that her sash will be formally returned to ensure transparency.

Yacé also reaffirmed the decision through a statement posted on her official Facebook page. She explained that stepping down was necessary to preserve the principles guiding her life and career, particularly after a dramatic and highly publicised finale in Bangkok.

“As Côte d’Ivoire’s representative at Miss Universe 2025, I proved I am capable of achieving great things despite adversity,” she wrote, reflecting on the challenges she overcame during the competition. However, she stressed that continuing in the role would require unwavering alignment with her values of respect, dignity, excellence, and equal opportunity.

Calling her resignation a thoughtful, value-driven choice, Yacé emphasised her desire to inspire younger generations and champion spaces where African and Black communities have been historically underrepresented. She urged Afro-descendant communities worldwide to continue breaking barriers and asserting their presence.

Her departure follows one of the most turbulent Miss Universe editions in recent years, marred by accusations of rigged judging, onstage mishaps, and a viral confrontation involving eventual winner Miss Mexico Fátima Bosch. Despite the controversy, many fans believe Yacé deserved a higher placement, praising her eloquence and poise throughout the competition.
