NAPTIP places singer Speed Darlington on watchlist

Speed Darlington Reacts After Being Declared Wanted by NAPTIP Over Rape and Cybercrime Allegations

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has announced that Nigerian rapper Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has been placed on its watchlist after repeatedly failing to honour an invitation to its headquarters in Abuja.

According to Leadership, NAPTIP’s Director of Legal and Prosecution, Ijeoma Mary Amugo, disclosed this during a press briefing on Monday, November 24. The agency had earlier declared the controversial singer wanted on June 27, 2025, over allegations of r3pe, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking. The declaration followed his viral claim—made during a live Instagram session—where he boasted about engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl, an act categorised as sexual involvement with a minor.

Despite the allegations, the rapper filed a lawsuit against NAPTIP, insisting he committed no offence and that the “wanted” declaration violated his rights.

Addressing journalists, Amugo stated that Speed Darlington attempted to intimidate the agency by publicly refusing to honour their invitation. She added that NAPTIP’s efforts to physically locate him proved unsuccessful, as he could not be traced to any known address.

She revealed that the latest intelligence indicates Speed Darlington is currently outside Nigeria. “We have placed him on a watchlist. Anytime he enters the country, NAPTIP will continue the investigation from where we stopped. That is the current status of the case,” she said.
